6th Grade 2018 Science Fair Project Ideas

This year’s Science Fair Projects must connect closely to the science standards and curriculum. The categories are underlined and some ideas are listed below. You are not limited to this list, but keep in mind that the project must be measurable by time, length, weight, or an observable trait that compares to something else. Engineering, computer science, and math are also areas of research. The top 3 individual and/or team winners (no more than 3 per team) of the AES Science will represent the school at the Wiregrass District Science Fair on January 25, 2019. If they place there, they will be able to represent the school at the Greater East Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GEARSEF) in Auburn, AL in March 2019. Choosing beginner level project is NOT recommended. THIS PROJECT IS MANDATORY. NO PARTICIPATION WILL EARN A GRADE THAT REFLECTS IT.

  • AES Science Fair Date is Friday, December 7, 2018
  • Late projects will not be judged for the Wiregrass Fair and will reflect a 10-point deduction for each day late. Highest late score: Day 1—90; Day 2—80; Day 3—70, etc.
  • A tentative GEARSEF (Auburn) rubric is attached—Engineering and Science
  • Groups are acceptable, with no more than 3 members. (Please keep scheduling and participation in mind. A child who does nothing will receive a grade that matches effort).
  • Tri-fold presentation boards are to be used and bring the items used to display with the project.
  • Parents who want to use the 5th grade Science Fair Project guide must email me and I will forward the guide for you to view or print.
  • Journals (book, binder, or report-type papers) are recommended for documentation of steps, data, and results (they do not have to be perfect).
  • I am glad to assist and am available by Remind, email, and conference if you’d like me to review projects through the process. My response will be based upon free time to respond/meet.
